IAW or Islam Awareness Week is a national annual event that is organised by Islamic Societies (ISOCs) either within the university community on campus or within the wider local community in which activities are organized to inform, promote, and increase awareness of the message of Islam to Muslims and non-Muslims alike.
This academic year, eight (8) ISOCs in Dublin: Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, Dublin City University, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Institute Technology Tallaght, Dublin Business School, Institute Technology Blanchardstown and Dublin Institute of Technology along with four (4) ISOCs in other cities and towns: University College Cork, National University of Galway, Queens University Belfast and Institute of Technology Tralee, have joined together to host and coordinate an all Ireland Islam Awareness Weeks on Irish campuses. It will be held over two weeks starting from 15th of February 2010 and finishing on 26th of February 2010 with a IAW Grand Dinner
Aims and Objectives of FOSIS Ireland IAW 2010:-

To inform, promote, and increase awareness of the message of Islam to Muslims and non-Muslim alike

To promote brotherhood/sisterhood and unity amongst all Muslims in the university and college sphere
-
To promote equality, justice, religious freedom, and encourage universities and college administrations in realising these universal values in its action

To highlight the structure and works of Muslim students and Islamic Societies in Ireland
Overview of FOSIS Ireland IAW 2010 Strategy & Logistics
While the actual programme of events within the overall common theme during the course of IAW is decided upon by each Islamic Society depending on their logistics, resource and capacity, FOSIS Ireland at the “umbrella level” seeks to coordinate every effort and push each and every event to its very maximum potential Insha’Allah.
Among the areas of Islam, its precepts and issues at hand, we hope to enlighten and educate our participants during IAW to include at least the following:

General knowledge on guiding principles of Islam (the 5 pillars of Islam and 6 pillars of Iman, etc)

Specific act of worship in Islam ( Salah, Zakah, Hajj, Fasting, etc) Truth and Miracles of the Quran

Prophets and Messengers of Islam

History of Islamic Civilisation
-
Issues of the Muslim World: situation of the many distressed and oppressed Muslim world- Palestine, Chechnya, Iraq, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Nigeria etc.

The Diversity of Muslims around the world Islamic Art - Calligraphy, Music, Poetry, Architecture, etc

Muslims contribution in human’s civilization

Comparative Religion

Misconception on Islam – e.g. Women in Islam, Islam and Politics, Terrorism, Hijab, Fitna, Misconceptions on Prophet Muhammad SAW, etc.

IAW Grand Dinner
It is planned that a Grand Dinner will be the platform to mark the closing of IAW. It provides the opportunity for ISocs and FOSIS to present and past activities of itself and IAW to all attendees and honoured guests, with the hope that recognition and appreciation will be brought to the very framework and systematic planning of all those persons, institutions, organizations, companies whose efforts and contributions have made it all possible and a success to be remembered.
The theme chosen for the Grand dinner is “Islam Awareness Week in the Spotlight- Lights, Camera & Action.”
